Project Description:

The renovation project of Grandma Unit belongs to a 3-story, 6-unit building with 27 years of history, where the quality of materials used was not in good condition. The purpose of naming this project was to honor the memory of the dear grandmother (homeowner). Due to the use of metal plumbing installations and their corrosion, the walls and ceiling of the unit were severely affected by mold and moisture. The kitchen had large cement and stone countertops with cement-coated concrete beams and cabinets made of Aleppo pine, which were in poor condition due to moisture from the floor and walls. The main problem of this unit was the low height and the unevenness and crookedness of most walls, which created limitations for the designer; as it was not possible to demolish the walls, appropriate wall covers and colors were used to mitigate this issue as much as possible. Due to apartment residency laws and the use of coordinated single windows in harmony with the overall building facade, the designer’s hands were tied when it came to making changes to the window dimensions. The unit had very good natural lighting throughout the day. (3 north and east windows in the living room and 1 north window in the kitchen) Therefore, it was decided to block the north window in the kitchen due to the limited space of the cabinets and allocate it to the cabinet space. The goal of renovating this project was to create an optimal and suitable interior space, accompanied by reasonable costs.
